How often do we crash?

One report from the USA uncovered a startling statistic: 77% of motorists in the US have been in at least one accident in their lifetime. For every 1000 miles you drive, your chances of getting into a car accident are 1 in 366.

The average driver will file an insurance claim for an auto collision once every 17.9 years!  But, nationwide, 43% of first-year drivers and 37% of second-year drivers are involved in car crashes.

Where do collisions happen?

52% of accidents occur within five miles of a driver’s home and 69% occur within ten miles!

New cars are safer!  A key reason why are new cars safer than old cars (and more fuel efficient) is because of how advanced the safety technology has become. Not only have we developed lighter yet equally durable materials to build our cars from, we now have many more tools to mitigate the possibility of a collision

The top reasons for car accidents are still largely able to be managed by the driver –

  • Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs.
  • Mobile Phone Use.
  • Speeding.
  • Weather Conditions.
  • Ignoring Red Lights and Stop Signs.
  • Young Drivers.
  • Night Driving.
  • Reckless Driving.

Please drive safely, every time.
