More than 21,000 collisions in car parks have occurred in the past year.
AAMI data showed there are around 39 per cent more car park collisions in December than in other months. Around 2500 car park crashes happened in December 2021 while in January a further 1881 claims were lodged.
Westfield Doncaster in Melbourne, one of the biggest in Victoria, is the country’s worst hotspot for car park crashes.
It’s closely followed by Westfield Chatswood in Sydney and Caneland Central in Mackay, Queensland.
The worst time for bingles is on Thursdays between 12pm and 4pm but is closely followed by Friday.
Almost a quarter (24%) of shopping centre car-park collisions involved a driver hitting a stationary object such as a bollard, shopping trolley, or pillar or wall.
Meanwhile, a quarter of shopping centre car-park collisions occurred when at least one driver was reversing, and around one in 10 (11%) involved a driver hitting a parked car.
